Meet Dr. Judy Morgan, The Culinary Alchemist of Pet Wellness

Judy Morgan, DVM, CVA, CVCP, CVFT Meet Dr. Judy Morgan, The Culinary Alchemist of Pet Wellness

AllProvide Pet Food believes proper nutrition is vital to our pets’ overall health and vitality. We take a holistic 360°approach to wellness through the healing powers of food to restore and maintain balance in the body. Or, in simpler terms, we believe health and real healing begin with fresh food. In pursuing total wellness, we’ve teamed up with Dr. Judy Morgan, the holistic health trailblazer who believes the secret to a happy, healthy pet starts right where it should: in the bowl.

Dr. Judy Morgan is our go-to guru of gut health and holistic harmony. She’s not just a veterinarian; she’s a four-pawed food whisperer, blending ancient wisdom with modern science to turn pet meals into “medicine.”

With a DVM and more post-nominal letters than a prescription pad (CVA, CVCP, CVFT), Dr. Morgan is a certified veterinary acupuncturist, chiropractor, and food therapist—a triple threat in the integrative pet world. After 36 years in clinical practice, she swapped the stethoscope for a megaphone, using her voice and life-long experience to educate pet parents across the globe through speaking, writing, and online consulting.

Jersey-born and passion-driven, Dr. Morgan graduated valedictorian of her high school class before breezing through Rutgers and earning her veterinary degree from the University of Illinois. But it wasn’t long before she realized there was more to pet health than pills and processed kibble.

Food as Therapy

As Chief Veterinary Medical Officer at Monkey’s House Dog Hospice, Judy’s heart is as big as her intellect. She volunteers with rescue groups, helping dogs who’ve had a rough start find peace, purpose—and yes, organic pumpkin purée and mushrooms.

She’s the best-selling author of nine books—including the popular Yin & Yang series, a must-read for conscious pet parents—and a frequent guest in media, from streaming platforms to top pet health publications. Dr. Morgan is also the founder of Dr. Judy Morgan’s Naturally Healthy Pets, an e-commerce and educational platform dedicated to natural, holistic pet care.

Through this platform, she hosts the Naturally Healthy Pets podcast, where she interviews leading veterinarians and pet wellness advocates from around the world. She’s also the creator and host of the International Naturally Healthy Pets Experience—a two-day, immersive event designed for pet owners and animal health professionals. This unique gathering features world-renowned holistic pet care experts, cutting-edge exhibitors, and science-backed education on the latest advancements in natural healing therapies for pets. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for the pet-loving community to connect, learn, and elevate their approach to animal wellness.

At its core, Dr. Morgan’s mission is simple: to revolutionize pet health one bowl of real food at a time.

As an integrative veterinarian, Dr. Morgan is trained in conventional veterinary medicine but is also certified and deeply experienced in holistic therapies. Rather than choosing one system over the other, this approach thoughtfully integrated both—offering the best modern science and time-tested natural healing, combining traditional diagnostics (like blood tests and imaging) with holistic therapies (like acupuncture, food therapy, chiropractic, and herbs).

It wasn’t long into her traditional veterinary career before she realized something was missing. Rather than diagnosing and treating symptoms, the focus extended on prevention, balance, and root-cause healing rather than short-term fixes and deep-pocket costs.

Miracles happen when you feed real food,” she says. “I looked like a hero in practice just by changing the diet.

From Lab Coats to Labels

Knowing the state and compromised pet food industry standards, Dr. Morgan searched for a brand that met her “no-compromise” benchmark. She found a food she could stand behind—literally, in the formulation lab. AllProvide created recipes free from harsh processing techniques, synthetic fillers, and factory-farmed rendered meats, instead brimming with healing intention and ethical sourcing. Seven years spanned from using, endorsing, and consulting for AllProvide to launching her own exclusive diet formulations with AllProvide following the principles of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine — Dr. Judy Morgan’s Constitutions™

We had a moment to interview Dr. Morgan and ask her some questions about the secret weapons for pet health.

If we could give pets a voice, we would. So when we asked Dr. Morgan if animals could talk, what would be the most common health complaint she’d hear—and how would she treat it differently as a holistic veterinarian?

“My ears hurt and are always itchy. My stomach hurts pretty often, too.” They would say.  In response, “I would fix the diet. Change from high-carb, highly processed food to gently cooked or raw food made with human-grade ingredients. The ear infections will miraculously go away, and the tummy will feel better, too!”

And is there a “root cause” you find most often overlooked in pet health today?

“Diet, of course. Veterinarians push pet owners to feed highly processed food made with feed-grade ingredients. Nutrition is the cornerstone of good health. Pet owners are inundated with blatantly false advertising regarding the big pet food companies, so they do not understand the huge difference between extruded kibble and REAL food.”

When we asked Dr. Morgan what natural remedy surprises people the most, her answer is as simple as it is powerful:

“Good food! Changing the diet from processed food to human-grade food cures SO MANY problems! In practice, I looked like a hero because pets did so much better when I had the owners change the diet. It’s nothing short of miraculous.”

So what’s one thing a pet owner can do today that would make a noticeable difference in their animal’s life?

“Change away from feed-grade, highly processed food to human-grade, gently cooked, or raw diets. Also, be sure to include fresh air and sunshine in the daily routine. Mental health is a huge part of overall well-being.”

Digestive issues are common ailments in dogs, a problem we hear all too often with pet parents looking for relief. What's your "food first-aid kit" for pets?

“Canned organic pumpkin, grated fresh ginger, congee (a sort of Asian porridge), ground turkey, and Chaga mushrooms are all great for gut health and will do wonders to cure an upset tummy.”

Which foods/diets do pets seem to respond to most enthusiastically?

“Once they understand fresh food, they will definitely gravitate toward it. However, a lot of our rescued pets in the past have not recognized fresh food as food. They have been so used to eating dry, burnt brown balls that they don’t know what to do with fresh food. Our Cocker Spaniel, Charlie, refused fresh or raw food when he came. I had to hand-feed him gently cooked food for the first week. Now, he is our most eager eater and loves raw or gently cooked food and treats.”

With pet wellness retreats on the rise, they’re becoming more popular as pet parents seek holistic experiences for their furry companions that go beyond the typical groom-and-go spa day. These retreats focus on whole-body healing, enrichment, and relaxation—just like human wellness getaways, but with more belly rubs and tail wags.

If you could create a “wellness retreat” for pets, what would it include?

“Lots of time in a safe, off-leash area to sniff and play. Daily massage and chiropractic care. Time playing with the owner and a favorite toy. Fresh meals prepared specifically for the personality and constitution of the pet. Nap time on the softest, most comfortable, cushy pillows. A micro-bubble bath with essential oils added.”

Yeah, we’d like to go too! Maybe a two-for-one. Switching gears, we honed in on Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), which has been practiced for over 3,000 years—yes, thousands! This may be fairly new to our current commercial society; however, early Chinese veterinarians treated horses, livestock, and dogs using herbs, acupuncture, massage (Tui-na), and food therapy—believing that animals, like humans, thrive when their internal energy is balanced and in harmony with nature. Holistic vets today use TCVM to treat pets, drawing on millennia of wisdom and clinical experience—with a modern twist.

How do you see Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine evolving in the next 10 years—and what role do you hope it plays in the future of mainstream pet care?

“Thanks to Dr. Xie at Chi University, more veterinarians are being educated in TCVM around the world. I think it will continue to grow as a more mainstream therapy (or at least I hope it does). Once we see how much healing occurs when pets are treated as individuals, treating the patterns their body is showing, we start to heal our patients instead of treating symptoms. I wish all veterinarians could be educated in this modality.”

As one of the first commercial pet foods on the market to utilize the principles of Holistic Food Therapy, we were aware of the lingering misconceptions that the word “holistic” held, such as that it wasn’t “complete and balanced” or that it was merely a marketing buzzword.

What are the biggest misconceptions you think people have about holistic or integrative pet care?

“That it doesn’t work, that it’s “woo woo”, that we have no proof using double-blind placebo trials published in scientific journals. We DO have proof - thousands of years of proof. The holistic practitioners see the proof in their clinics every day.”

Is there a moment in your career when a pet completely changed how you approach your practice?

“About a thousand of them! Every pet I have ever owned or fostered came to teach me something. Every patient I ever treated taught me something new.”

If you could bust one myth about commercial pet food that still lingers today, what would it be?

“That all food made by big corporations is complete and balanced. (It’s not.)”

What’s one ingredient you wish every pet parent would stop feeding—and one you wish they’d start?

“Food with rendered ingredients should never be fed. Sadly, the majority of the pet food on the market contains rendered ingredients. I wish they would add any fresh food to the bowl.”

Do you see a difference in behavior when a pet switches from processed to whole food diets?

“YES! The microbiome in the gut changes dramatically when switching from processed food to whole food diets. The gut-brain axis plays a critical role in behavior.”

Dr. Morgan’s philosophy is simple, ancient, and backed by science: Treat the whole pet, not only the symptoms. Feed the body, nourish the spirit, and always start with food. Never underestimate the power of nutrient-dense, biologically appropriate bowls of fresh diets. Holistic food supports every pet’s health—whether they’re bouncing puppies, senior snugglers, or anywhere in between. It’s not just for problems; it’s about prevention, longevity, and optimizing vitality through nutrition.
